I am leading a project to understand and document personal data holdings from across the Defra group in preparation for GDPR implementation in May 2018.

I am using my collaboration, influencing and leadership skills to instigate and drive change in how data is designed, shared and used in the Defra group.

I took responsibility for the management of data policy and ensuring data policy continued to develop during a change of programme director.

I was instrumental in the establishment and leadership of the cross Defra group Open Data Accelerator and SR15 data transformation bid and led a team of specialists providing data services, ensuring key data services were delivered and maintained.

I led Defra’s engagement with stakeholders across central and local government to drive the publication of data under the INSPIRE Directive. Under my leadership, the INSPIRE team engaged with 100’s of public bodies to facilitate them to make over 10,000 location data resources available via data.gov.uk, during a period of considerable financial restraint.

I was responsible for day to day management and operation of Natural England’s key GI systems and maintenance of a range of critical corporate data. I set the direction for the use of GI in Natural England by co-authoring a Geographic Literacy Strategy. I worked with senior leaders to develop the strategy and an associated action plan.

I was responsible for the day to day management, development and improvement of desktop GI systems used by 300-400 staff.

I managed a team of 6-8 technical specialists during a period of significant change, the transition from English Nature to Natural England and continued with my GI systems specialist role.

I used a complex land information system to capture land ownership and usage information and produce maps for use in land transfers and development planning in the English new towns.
