I completed NHDip Electrical Engineering Heavy Current at Vaal Triangle Technican through Eskom PTM&C from July 1984 to June 1988. From Aug 1988 to March 1990 I served a compulsory 21 month duty in the TSC of the SAArmy. My work experience started in Eskom S/pan Distribution Protection Field Service until July 1996. Main duties were related to maintenance and fault finding on electrical protection relays used on overhead lines, cables, transformers and busbars. Periodic new project commissioning involved FAT and SAT tests of scheme wiring and primary plant. Basic current protection setting calculations were performed to verify and confirm tested results. I joined the Electrical Dept of Kempton Park Municipality in Aug 1996 as Senior Engineering Technician and served until May 2008. The duties were management of several units which included the relay test section, cable fault location section, electrical metering section, control room, Radio and communication workshop, Station DC section, Tool and material store and site security at the Electrical Head office. Technically I was responsible for all network fault calculations and settings as well as training. After the formation of Ekurhuleni Metro in Dec 2000 I found promotion to the Principal engineering position of the Northern region that included the previous Kempton Park, Tembisa and Edenvale municipal areas.During the period 1998 to 1999 I served at part time lecturer for the Kempton Park satellite campus of Vaal Triangle Technicon in the following subjects: Electrical Protection S4, Electrical Machines S4 and Electrical Distribution S4. During this period until 2007 I also assisted as external examiner for the B-Tech practical examination of Wits Technicon.I joined Harmonious Technical in June 2008 till July 2012 where my main duties were designing, installing and commissioning protection schemes for industrial and mining clients. This included performing network fault studies and settings calculations which were often then applied and tested on their network to address poor system performance.On 1 Aug 2012 I joined ABB South Africa and I am still employed as Regional Support Engineer. The main duties of this position is provide technical, software and product training and support on the ABB Relion and pre-Relion (or obsolete) products installed in sub Sahara Africa. This support includes sales support and repairs on these products.On 1 July 2020 the ABB Power Grids division officially became the Hitachi ABB Powergrids division.
