Oct 2010 - Dec 2011St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Qc, CanadaResponsible for the implementation of simulation and presentation components (Graphical User Interface and 3D view) for Rheinmetall’s Air Defense Operations Simulator (ADOS). The ADOS simulator is used to train the Dutch Army personnel for optimal use of their Ground Based Air Defense System. My mandate in this project was to implement the graphical user interface for operation of the 3D environment and to provide a game-mode simulation component that allows students and role players complete manual control of simulated entities in the battlefield.

Mar 2008 - May 2010Brossard, Qc, CanadaResponsible for the implementation of new features in Adacel’s 3D visual simulation system (used as part of Airport Tower simulators); real-time shadows engine, accumulation effects for snow plowing, and 3D sound engine with Doppler effects. The Real-Time Shadow Engine dynamically computes and renders in real-time all shadows cast by features in the scene (aircrafts, buildings, etc.). This is part of a contract to procure advanced Airport Tower Simulators to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States.

Mandate: Software Developer For Mechtronix Systems LtdPixdev Inc. Feb 2009 - Jun 2009Ville St-Laurent, Qc, CanadaResponsible for the implementation of the Electronic Flight Instrumentation System (EFIS avionics) in Mechtronix’s Bell 412 simulator. As part of this contract, I had to analyze the Bell 412 helicopter data (technical specifications of data interchanged between the various avionic boxes in this helicopter) and implement the equivalent functionality in Mechtronix’s simulator. This involved writing code for the simulation of the electronic displays (Symbol Generators, Navigation displays), implementing the presentation of these displays and validating their look and functionality against video recordings made in the real Bell-412 aircraft.

May 2000 - Apr 2003Brossard, Qc, CanadaResponsible for the architecture, design, implementation and integration of the visual software for Adacel’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) simulation product. This is a real-time, distributed (up to 16 PCs per visual system), multithreaded Windows application responsible for graphically representing the visual appearance of airport environments, as seen by Tower Controllers. This includes a full simulation of environmental conditions (rain, sun, cloud layers, falling snow, fog, etc.) and airport traffic (landing and departing aircrafts).The extensive and realistic special effects developed as part of this mandate were key factors in helping Adacel win a major simulation contract worth more than 70M US$ for the installation of Airport Tower Simulators across 94 United States Air Force military bases.

Feb 2000 - May 2000Montreal, Canada AreaMy mandate was to improve the OSIM product (a complete development environment used to create distributed HLA simulation applications) to include a number of features such as the ability to import and export individual class definitions across modeling sessions, add the support for user-definable events in the run-time execution engine, allow the execution engine to run in scaled real-time mode, in the as-fast-as-possible mode under HLA Time Management, etc.This works also included proposing new modeling concepts for the evolution of the OSIM product.This mandate required learning the OSIM software structure in a very short time and implementing the features requested for delivery to OriginalSim clients.

The engine animates virtual soldiers through all of the various states they can be in a virtual battlefield (i.e. running for cover, crawling, firing, etc). Part of the mandate was accomplished at ECC’s office in Orlando (now a division of Cubic Corporation) to establish the interface with their system and provide them with an initial implementation of the engine. Further development of the engine was done off-site using an incremental development process.

Oct 1998 - Aug 1999Ville St-Laurent, Qc, CanadaResponsible for the design, implementation and integration of the visual software for the Department of National Defense (DND) Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) crew gunnery training simulator. This is a fully distributed PC-based simulator used to train the Canadian Army personnel in combat situations. Each system contains five visual channels that display a realistic view of the battlefield conditions in normal day vision, image-intensified vision and thermal vision. Many special effects were custom-designed for this simulator: muzzle flash, obscuration, heat shimmering, weather conditions such as rain, fog, snow, day/night lighting, etc.
