Heading one of the largest portfolios within the University of Cape Town, I was accountable for alarge budget and delivery of services across an array of areas while managing significant risk. My portfolio included campus protection and security, access control, building maintenance, cleaning, gardening, transport, parking, and management of vendor agreements on campus. I played a role in maintaining the stability through challenges such as the energy crisis, the removal of the Cecil John Rhodes statue in April 2015, disruptions caused by student and worker protests during 2016 and 2017, the current urgent need for water conservation; and the 2016 in-sourcing of contract staff members, which increased the Properties & Services staff contingent from around 140 to 955. I had responsibility for large capital projects, recently overseeing the completion of the New Engineering Building, the new Snape Building and the New Lecture Theater, and importantly the purchase of the new staff and student rapid bus transport fleet. My engagement with organizations such as the taxi associations and Heritage Western Cape has helped to create good relationships with these stakeholders.

As Head: Engineering Services I assume the role of maintenance engineer, principal project engineer and competent person as per Occupational Health and Safety Act, overseeing all in-house mechanical and electrical services and design. My responsibilities include all reactive, planned and preventative maintenance across all buildings and encompasses external, internal and structural building fabric, all physical plant, 11 kV consumer network, central water reticulation, lifts and surrounding estate comprising earth dams, parking areas and roads.

Responsible for design and execution of mechanical and electrical infrastructure across the UCT campuses. Acted as project team member responsible for the co-ordination of building and renovation functions. Provided technical inputs regarding mechanical and electrical plant installations to projects at all stages from inception to completion.

Luwa (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd, formerly a Swiss subsidiary, specialises in industrial air conditioning and ventilation, textile air conditioning, clean room technology design and contracting. My responsibilities included client liaison, design brief, design process, preparation of tender documentation and drawings, cost estimating, work program and contract completion for all types of air conditioning projects.

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, my responsibilities included the design and preparation of modification packages for hydroelectric plant modifications, compiling technical specifications for plants, performing problem-solving and root cause analysis of plant problems, reviewing designs, specifications and procedures and the monitoring of data to evaluate plant conditions.
