July 2020, we started our spin-off EnGreDi BV. EnGreDi stands for Enabling the Green Direction - which immediately indicates our mission. August 2020, we started the development project "Industrial production of Eco-Moss using In Vitro Technology". Financially supported by the Flemish Agency for Innovation and Business. With a budget of over 300.000 € for 3 FTE’s during 3 years. Scientifically supported by the Laboratory for Applied In Vitro Plant Biotechnology of Ghent University. With this project we will have taken important steps in In Vitro moss cultivation. Both in terms of upscaling the production, and in terms of possible forms of delivery, including the depositing of mosses as a suspension on a suitable substrate. We will also be able to supply various types of moss from our moss bank (DNA-analysed). This offer provides a clear ecological added value compared to the vascular plants usually used for greening applications (Hedera, Sedum, ...). Moreover, our production process is four times faster than natural vegetative or generative moss cultures. This is our answer to the ever-growing demand for moss and prevents overexploitation of our natural areas. In addition to the scientific support we have from Ghent University, we work close together with other university colleges and universities. Also, we participates in R&D projects as "EcoCities - Green walls and roofs as a source of ecosystem services in our future cities“ and "Green Roofs UP!".
