Though my formal education is for elementary school, my most recent position as a special education teacher taught me invaluable skills that I plan to bring to my future general education classrooms, such as creating meaning differentiated lessons, collecting data to analyze student progress, and how to teach every student. No matter what grade or class I'm teaching, my goal is to create a positive classroom environment, built upon trust and respect, in order to actually be able to teach. I aim to teach a culturally relevant, student-centered classroom where my students' funds of knowledge are utilized to teach meaningful lessons. To your school, I will add a classroom where every student is held to high-expectations and being taught to think critically and use higher-order thinking skills, no matter what the students’ background or life experiences. My experience as a student greatly shaped the way I want to teach and be remembered as a teacher, as I want every student to feel represented, heard, and loved in my classroom.
