My first role required me to work with the claims processing teams, looking for problems and implementing solutions. This resulted in me leading the implementation of a new paper-to-electronic process with a new vendor. We did not simply use the same rules as the prior vendor; we identified business pain points that would be resolved with cleaner claims, and implemented claims business and rejection rules to ensure claims came in clean. This resulted in high quality claims and lower cycle times.My next large project has been leading the OnBase implementation as a business lead for HI Operations. At various intervals throughout the project I have acted as business analyst, process improvement analyst, tester, and liaison to the trainers and change management leader.

I had the opportunity to improve various aspects of the hospital in the year I worked at St. Mary's. The Cath Lab supply room was a potential finding of a regulatory audit, so I helped them improve the organization by implementing the 5S and Kanban methodologies. I managed the implementation of over 350 mobile phones throughout the nursing units, and as well as helped open a new unit, the Day Surgery unit, that combined workflows from two previous areas.

The Quality, Safety, and Innovation Lab is a student-run lab under the UW Health Quality, Safety, and Innovation department and the UW-Madison Industrial and Systems Engineering department that focuses on quality improvement projects at UW Hospital. As a research assistant, I lead projects in addition to helping run the lab and mentoring undergraduate students. Projects involved various levels of data analysis, project management, and the use of process improvement tools. Past projects include: reducing patient wait times in the surgery clinic; investigating reasons that staff don't bill for discharge supplies and helping map the future state of the process; administering an Obstructive Sleep Apnea survey; and reorganizing a supply closet using 5S.As an intern, I lead a project investigating the factors that prevented RNs and NAs from providing quality care. We gathered data from over 50 hours of time studies and recommended solutions for reducing their wasteful processes, which would in turn allow them to provide better quality care to patients.

As an implementation specialist, I helped customers coordinate the design, testing, and training of the health plan software they were implementing. My primary application was Tapestry, which is the managed care application. BioMedical Forensics is a consulting firm that specializes in mechanism of injury and causation of trauma for personal litigation cases. As an engineer I did research and case preparation for the expert in the firm, including:•Critically analyzing trauma literature for applicability to injury litigation cases•Performing biomechanical calculations to determine whether injury, as described by the plaintiff, was likely given the conditions of the incident•Planning and executing experiments to measure forces of particular objects•Preparing presentations for the expert to use with her clients
