We also plan to describe the molecular mechanisms of adaptation of these organisms by varying the coatings proposed for our biological models. Our first results on Phaeodactylum tricornutum showed different metabolomic profiles between adherent (glass and poystyrene) and non-adherent (stock and planktonic) diatoms models. O2PLS models classified adherent and non adherent cell cultures through analyses of NMR and HPLC data according to predictive 1. Stock cell cultures were discriminated from other cell cultures according to predictive 2. Around 15 discriminants spectral regions have been pointed out in analyses of HPLC and NMR data, expecting promising metabolites of interest. Further investigations including LC/MS-MS, molecular networking and multi-block analyses will be performed with two other diatoms Amphora coffaeformis and Cylindrotheca closterium cultivated on three surfaces (glass, polystyrene and polydimethylsiloxane) that should provide news insights into molecular mechanisms and lead to promising perspectives in elucidation of antifouling targets. By comparing their responses to those obtained on a reference surface, we will be able to highlight the proposed adaptations according to the supposed difficulty of colonizing other coatings. In addition to the contribution of knowledge on the biology of these organisms, this work should also provide guidance for the development of innovative antifouling coatings which would find their applications at the level of the hulls of vessels, fishing and aquaculture equipment, materials for the production of marine renewable energy, for example. Societal, environmental and regulatory pressures lead to a strong restriction of the use of toxic compounds present in antifouling formulations. A promising strategy to fight fouling is based on the surface properties of materials and/or coatings (low energy, roughness), which consists in reducing the forces of interaction between organisms and surfaces. Another one could be to better understand the biofilm installation upon surfaces.Benthic diatoms are, with bacteria, the early and major players in surface colonization, forming a tenacious and resilient biofilm. However, so far, diatoms have not been studied extensively, in particular, the knowledge of the process involved in their adhesion remains under-explored. Exploring the process of diatoms adhesion using NMR metabolomics.In order to explore diatoms adhesion strategies, we have investigated at a molecular level how the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum modifies its metabolism for performing its adhesion according to the encountered substrate. Therefore, we applied proton NMR metabolomics to diatoms adherent to glass and polystyrene and two planktonic non-adherent diatom cultures.

Particularly, I was involved in the isolation, purification and structure elucidation of compounds from the Streptomyces sp.
