I was born in Pisa, Italy, July 28th, 1971. After completing high school, I moved to Milano. I received a B.Sc. in Physics and a M.Sc. in Materials Science and Technology from the University of Milano. In 1998 I moved to the USA where in the following five years I obtained a M.Sc. in Physics and a PhD in Polymer Science both from the University of Akron, while working as a teaching assistant in the Physics Department. In October 2003 I joined the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, where I spent the following two years as a post-doc associate working on the development of Monte-Carlo simulations describing the behavior of block copolymers at the interface between liquids of different hydrophobicity. In September 2005 I was awarded a fellowship by The Marie Curie Research and Training Network on Dynamical Arrested States of Soft Matter and Colloids and I spent 18 months in the Physics Department of the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy. I was in charge of a project dealing with the modeling and simulation of systems of colloidal nanoparticles involving the development of a massively parallel computer code to solve the problem by means of the technique known as “parallel tempering”. After two years at Molecular Stamping, in Lodi, Italy, where I worked as IP and IT specialist, in January 2009 I joined RTM Breda in Cormano, Italy, where I am currently employed and in charge of a project involving Forgital Italy for the modeling of some specific issues of the metal radial-axial ring rolling process using a description based on a finite element approach. I coordinate a team of colleagues in charge of designing new routes to obtain the final products by optimizing the working cycle by means of finite element analysis combined with the characterization of the rheology of the used alloys at high temperatures as well as of their thermal exchanges and friction coefficients.

Research Proposals CoordinatorRtm Breda Apr 2013 - PresentCormano, Milano, ItalySince April 2013 I am responsible for preparing, presenting and following the iter of Research proposals presented at the European, national and regional (in Veneto and Lombardia the two Italian regions where RTM Breda has its offices) level:• April 2013: Project AFOOT (Advanced FOrging of an Optimized Turbine casing) presented for the 14th Call within the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking framework of the European Commission. The project has won the call and it started in October 2013 and ended in April 2016, with RTM Breda as the coordinator, Forgital Italy as partner and MTU Aero as the topic manager.• December 2013: Project titled Modellazione dell’evoluzione microstrutturale di super-leghe a base di nichel durante lavorazione a caldo (Modelling of the microstructural evolution of nickel-based superalloys during hot forming) presented for the POR CRO PARTE FESR 2007-2013 AZIONE 5.1.1 “COOPERAZIONE INTERREGIONALE” BANDO N. 2/2013 of the Veneto Regional Government.• October 2014: Project titled “Ricerca e sviluppo di una nuova tecnica per la previsione del comportamento meccanico e l’ulteriore esercibilità di materiali metallici da applicare in campo industriale tramite previsione microstrutturale” (Research and development of a new technique for prediction of the mechanical behaviour and the residual life of metals to be applied in industrila practice through a microstructural evolution prediction), funded by Bando per la Crescita Sostenibile del Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico (the Italian Ministry for the Economic Development). The project activities started in September 2015 and were completed in May 2019.I also coordinated the activities carried out to obtain from the European Patent Office the revocation of a patent previously assigned to a former RTM Breda collaborator who had incorrectly used information collected during his period of collaboration with the company. The process ended positively in September 2018 with the revocation of such patent. -
Simulation Project LeaderRtm Breda Jan 2009 - PresentI have been hired as a scientist by RtmBreda, a great European pole of excellence in the materials science, specialized in materials testing and applied research including analyses and tests on metallic materials and polymers. I have worked full time on a project involving Forgital Italy for the modeling of some specific issues of the metal radial-axial ring rolling process using a description based on a finite element approach. The project is twofold and consists on one side in the creation of a VBA-based user defined interface between AutoCAD and the FEM program Simufact.Forming to allow the personnel of the technical office to perform the pre- and post-processing within AutoCAD and on the other side in a heavy customization of the simulation program (by means of Fortran user subroutines) in order to mimic as closely as possible the actual forging and rolling processes carried on in the plants of the group.Since April 2011 I have been appointed as leader of a multidisciplinary team in charge of the characterization and simulation of processes leading to the production of parts for the aeronautical market. I am currently coordinating the activity of seven people based in RTM Breda as well as in Forgital Italy and Forgital Dembiermont, two companies belonging to our group. I am keeping the contacts with external collaborators at the University of Ancona and various software companies in Germany and France.I am in charge of designing new routes to obtain the final products by optimizing the working cycle by means of finite element analysis combined with proper characterization of the rheology of the used alloys at high temperatures as well as of their thermal exchange and friction coefficients. -
Ip And It SpecialistMolecular Stamping Nov 2007 - Dec 2008As the IP specialist I dealt with the licensing and patenting issues of the company, negotiating two major licenses with international entities in order to assure freedom to operate for the company, and oversaw the preparation and submission of several patent applications at the italian, european and United States patent offices. As the IT specialist, I helped putting in place a thorough system of quality control of the products produced by the company, organized the experimental data collection and oversaw the organization of a secure VPN system to ensure secure interactions between the two locations of the company in Lodi and Trento. Finally, I worked as the bioinformatician for the company, taking care of the analysis of the data obtained from experiments performed on DNA microarrays.

ResearcherMolecular Stamping May 2007 - Nov 2007I was hired as a scientist and grew to become also the information technology and intellectual property specialist for this start-up company. As a scientist I worked on the optimization of thermodynamic models of the melting of double stranded DNA bound to a solid surface. I also organized the data analysis for all the molecular biology experiments run in our labs.

Post-Doc AssociateUniversity Of Milan Oct 2005 - Apr 2007Post-doc associate in the Physics Department of the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, employed by The Marie Curie Research and Training Network on Dynamical Arrested States of Soft Matter and Colloids. In charge of a project dealing with the modeling and simulation of system composed of colloidal nanoparticles that interact by means of competing potentials which exhibit a short term attractive portion followed by a repulsive tail at longer distances. Development of a massively parallel computer code to be able to solve the problem by means of the technique known as “parallel tempering”. -
Post-Doc AssociateMax Planck Institute For Polymer Research Nov 2003 - Oct 2005Mainz, GermanyAs a Post-doc associate in the Polymer Theory group under the supervision of Dr Thomas Vilgis, and working in close contact with Prof. Andrey Milchev, Senior Researcher at theBulgarian Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Vachtang Rostiashvili, I worked on the development of Monte-Carlo simulations of the behavior of block copolymers at theinterface between two liquids of different hydrophobicity.
