DaDriS stands for Dangerous and Beneficial Drifts of Standards in the Modern Working Environment. It is substantially funded by the German research council Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (FR 2892/3-1) and the South African research council National Research Foundation (NRF). DaDriS takes up an important aspect of modern organizations in industrialized as well as emerging economies: the appearance of standards as an expression of global form of rule setting and regulation and as a general tendency to minimize risk which is coincided with auditing and control processes. Based on this observation, we argue that the pure existence of standards, their positive rating or certification does not necessarily reflect organizational occurrences. Public or private actors who base their investments and strategic decisions on standards have to take into consideration that they may have only neutral or even dysfunctional consequences for innovation, learning and change. Thus, the actual effects of standards are open to question and are investigated in DaDriS.DaDriS is hosted by the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena at the Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, Department of Metallic Materials. On the South African side the project is accommodated by the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology of the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria. Further, we are tightly cooperating with the Linköping University, Department of Management and Engineering, Business Administration Division.
