The Health Safety & Environment Director, is accountable for providing leadership across the Broadway Subway Project on HSE strategy and supporting initiatives. The Health and Safety Director leads the Project to an enhanced culture of safety and environment among the employees and contractors.

Lead team of environmental professionals on the Broadway Subway Project, valued at $2.83 billion.Ensure compliance with WHMIS GHS, Canada’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations (equivalent to HazCom, 49 CFR and DOT).Implemented project wide hazardous materials and waste management system.Implemented online WHMIS SDS management system.Direct all aspects of project environmental program.Permitting – contaminated sites, waste discharge, water treatment, disposal at sea, transport of regulated material, hazardous waste, archaeological and heritage permits.Establish and maintain environmental management system.Internal and external auditing under ISO 14001, and Hazardous Waste Management under Provincial and Municipal Government regulations.Environmental representative for clients and regulators.Budget and cost control.Prepare and review technical reports. Lead role in internal design reviews.

Lead the implementation of the Seaspan ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to ensure continual improvement and achieve ongoing certification to ISO 14001.Manage external and internal auditing programs under ISO 14001, Transport Canada (Transportation of Dangerous Goods), Hazardous Waste Disposal Permitting under Provincial and Municipal Government regulations.Provide support and expertise for COR audit preparation.Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure safety standards are maintained across disciplines and business units.Develop and facilitate environmental/safety awareness, emergency response and role specific training programs.Manage the accuracy, the communication and the effective implementation of key process documents that support the Environmental Management System, including Spill Contingency Plans, Environmental Best Management Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and Environmental Risk Registers.Develop and implement an internal environmental inspection program to ensure policies and practices are maintained. Report on findings and corrective actions.Support operations through subject matter expertise, in environmental monitoring, incident response and regulatory reporting.Manage shipyard environmental budget.Identify and support annual business environmental priorities, including objective targets and the establishment/reporting on leading indicators.Responsible for environmental permitting such as air quality, hazardous materials management, and wastewater treatment.Oversee implementation and compliance with Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Protection Plans.Manage operation and business – budget, personnel, and permit compliance, of industrial wastewater treatment facility.
