I have recently graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. This degree emphasized the importance of working collaboratively with groups, often with opposing views. I was taught to listen to other perspectives and cultural practices with respect and understanding and accept their validity. The work I am looking to obtain will help develop the communication and interpersonal skills that I have fostered throughout my degree. I enjoy working in an environment that is challenging and allows me to use my strong leadership skills. It is important to me to do every task to the best of my ability in order to respond to the needs of those with whom I am working. I am able to work in a team environment but am also effective working independently without direct supervision. I am very flexible in doing tasks that are given to me and I follow directions well. In the summer of 2012 and 2013, I worked at the UBC Botanical Gardens as a customer service representative, where I was responsible for the satisfaction of customers in the Shop in the Garden. This experience contributed to my sales and interpersonal skills. In the following summer, I worked at the Vancouver Aquarium in the food services department. I was expected to take orders and serve customers as well as offer assistance in directing the visitors to specific areas in the Aquarium as well as around Stanley Park. I interacted with many visitors to Canada as well as many children and was expected to be able to communicate effectively with them. Most recently, I worked as an Accounts and Administrative manager at Yard Ventures Incorporated. My responsibilities varied between answering customers phone calls and emails, creating and sending invoices and pay cheques, and general office organization. I worked most days unsupervised and independently. This experience enabled me to develop my office administration skills as well as my knowledge of business management.
