Andrea Kohl received her MFA in Visual Communication from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS in 2004. She also holds a Diploma in Communication Design from the University of Applied Sciences in Trier, Germany. During her undergraduate studies Andrea spent one year at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Maidstone, England focussing on Interdisciplinary Studies.Andrea started her professional career in Germany, designing websites for members of the Craftsmen Guild, Trier and doing freelance graphic design work for local businesses. While pursuing her graduate degree at Kansas State University she worked as a web designer and instructed Visual Communication courses as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Before joining the faculty at the College of Saint Rose, Andrea taught Graphic Communications at Northern Michigan University. Andrea’s students have received design awards like the “Nori Award” of the Albany Ad Club and the “Todd Oldham Award for Creativity” of the Fur Free Alliance/Humane Society of the United States. Her student work has been exhibited at the Fur Free Alliance as well as the University & College Designers Association website.For many years Andrea has been interested in sustainability. She has received an award in the “Sustainability” poster competition of the “Center of Environmental Education” in Mainz, Germany. Moreover, she designed promotional materials for the “Focus the Nation” event in January 2008 aimed at communicating global warming issues to the College of Saint Rose and Albany community. Her articles on sustainable graphic design have been published in the “Designer” magazine by the UCDA (University & College Designers Association). She has received many awards by the Graphic Design USA magazine and the Albany Ad Club for her professional graphic and web design work created in recent years.
