During my four years at Storrs Library, I worked to improve user services and technology. I have had the opportunity to:Supervise a staff of 7 librarians, as well as a dedicated group of volunteers.Work with culturally diverse employees and patrons.Create and implement a variety of approaches to user instruction and staff training.Transform the reference collection from library-use-only to a dynamic and online collectionDevelop a Readers Advisory program making use of social media.Manage and evaluate electronic database offerings to meet the needs and interests of patrons.Manage our digital items collection including apps, books, and e-resources on more than 20 iPads, Kindles, Nooks, and tablets. Craft and maintain the library’s PR communication, e-newsletter, and the library website. Plan, request, and implement technology updates including yearly and long-range budget plans.

I maintained, designed, and authored new content for the library’s website; supported public computer stations, including troubleshooting Internet searches, email use, and printing; and provided reference and research services to patrons, including readers’ advisory and online and database search skills. I promoted library events, guest speakers and exhibits in the gallery through the library’s newsletter, the creation flyers and press releases, and posting to local online resources and to the library’s blog.Though I was officially hired as a reference librarian for the Adult Services department in November 2007, I continued in the webmaster duties for an additional four months while the webmaster position remained unfilled.

I provided reference and research services to patrons, including online and database search skills, and research services on local history topics in the Special Collections Department. I organized a Library 2.0 committee to assess the library’s needs and recommend new digital and social networking tools and approaches and evaluated and restructured the library’s E-Resources page to provide more information about and a guide to researching with the library’s electronic services.
