I am founder and CEO of Learning Couture (learningcouture.com), a company that designs web-based, adaptive solutions for simplifying and customizing professional learning so educators can create student experiences that are personalized and competency-based.I am also the Director of The Center (bit.ly/TheCenter_Iowa), an organization comprised of Area Education Agencies, local education agencies (districts, buildings, administrators, teacher leaders, teachers), institutions of higher education, School Administrators of Iowa, Iowa ASCD, Iowa Jobs for America's Graduates, and others.As an independent consultant, I also lead professional learning with area education agencies, districts/schools (including teachers, teacher leaders, principals, and superintendents), learners in higher education institutions (IHEs), and via Iowa ASCD, and Aurora Institute conferences, webinars, and cross-state partnerships and consultation.I served as one of Iowa's representatives on the Student-centered Learning Collaborative with CCSSO. Prior to this role, I was a member of Iowa's Competency-based Education Task Force, the Iowa CBE Collaborative, IDoE CBE Design Team (Collaborative districts, AEAs, IHEs, and IDoE personnel), and IDoE CBE Planning Team. Leadership roles on those teams include co-designing the recommendations for state legislators, leading the IDoE competency design (content and adaptive competencies), serving as a Committee Chair of the CBE Collaborative's Peer Review Committee to vet resources for statewide sharing, and co-designing the scope of the Collaborative’s professional learning and networking opportunities. Since 2014 I have been a consultant with Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency, supporting districts with school improvement, student engagement, and teacher leadership.Prior to my work with the AEAs and the IDoE, I led the pilot implementation of CBE in a district from December 2011 to June 2014 (including developing partnerships at the local, state, and national levels, collaborating with parents/community, leading professional learning for superintendents, principals and teachers, managing and innovating technology platforms and information systems, advocating for local and state policy change, determining success indicators, and monitoring fidelity of implementation through data collection and analysis).
