I am a dedicated and experienced Manager, Instructor and Mentor who has a keen interest in Health and Safety. I am an enthusiastic, confident leader and manager of exemplary character who strives to promote a professional demeanour in all work related areas. I am able to make balanced and fair decisions, which are, I believe, an invaluable asset to any manager. I am fully conversant with the process of both analytical and dynamic risk assessments when either organising training events or at operational incidents. At an operational level, the ‘unknown’ is a major factor and I am aware of the importance of a dynamic risk assessment and the need for myself and all other operational personnel to monitor constantly the ever-changing environment we work in. As a fire-fighter, I have been involved in all aspects of operational fire fighting. I also have experience in new dimensions equipment in particular the High Volume Pump and the demands on resources that this type of incident has. As a manager, I have been an Incident Commander at operational incidents and have brought these incidents to successful conclusion. These attributes have been transferred and developed further in my current managerial role in the Fire Service within The Operational Skills Development. I am a qualified workplace assessor and verifier which I use regularly to assess a variety of different aspects within my organisation. I have also recently completed my NEBOSH Course and have been successful with my application to The Institute of Fire Engineers as a Graduate member.

  My primary role within the Training Centre is the development and implementation of policies, procedures and online training programmes for all roles within the fire service. Personnel utilise such programmes to maintain their skills utilising the various types of learning material provided. I am also responsible for training operational personnel in all aspects of their role both theoretically and practically within the Training Centre. My responsibilities include the co-ordination and implementation of the assessor and verifier process within the service to ensure our trainees progress to competency as well as ensuring the service comply with SQA requirements.My secondary reference as an instructor is to carry out backshift training with operational personnel. This involves developing realistic training events, delivering and monitoring training and providing feedback on operational competence. This allows me to maintain and utilise my extensive skills such as Breathing Apparatus Instructor, Road Traffic Collision Instructor, and Fire Behaviour Instructor. By having primary and secondary references this allows me as a manager of the Fire Service to acquire, maintain and apply current procedures and practices in a variety of different subjects rather than focusing on one subject matter area.Since becoming an instructor my skills, knowledge and understanding of the fire service and its specialist areas have increased significantly. Being immersed in a training and development environment with team members and senior managers has afforded me the experience and ability to grow and in turn deal with an array of situations in a competent and professional manner.
