Payload Rack Officer in-training - participating in an extensive multi-year training program that leads to PRO Flight Controller certification.PROs manage the Expedite the Processing of Experiments to Space Station (EXPRESS) Racks that are located onboard the International Space Station (ISS), the Window Observation Research Facility (WORF) Rack, the Minus Eighty Degree Laboratory Freezer for ISS (MELFI), and EXPRESS Logistic Carrier (ELC) facilities located externally to the ISS. The EXPRESS and WORF Racks and ELCs contain experiments that are operated by science teams to gain various types of scientific and operational knowledge. In order to satisfactorily support science operations, the PRO position requires knowledge in electrical, thermal, power, and command systems and is responsible for maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the rack facilities and their interfaces to ISS systems for configuring, monitoring and managing their operation during real-time operations. The PRO is a member of a cadre of flight controllers who report to the Payload Operations Director (POD) and coordinates onboard rack-related activities with flight controllers at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) and with International Partner (IP) flight controllers from the European and Japanese Space Agencies. The PRO console position is staffed by certified PRO flight controllers, 24-hrs/day, and 7-days/week.

Utilizing a curriculum timeline provided by mentor teacher (out on long-term medical leave) I worked to tie-in multi-disciplinary lessons as well as STEM demonstrations and more hands-on labs to enhance and make more relevant the planned book chapters and units. Examples include combined math and science lessons focused on data collection and analysis - including chart creation by hand and digitally in computer class. Students were highly interested in the addition of the hands-on lessons, mini-demonstrations, and labs. There was a noticeable upswing in math and science grades and reduction in fear/dislike of the subjects (per discussion with parents) during my time there.

Camp Bonnie Brae - Otis, Ma

Served as lead counselor for other counselors in program and our group of ten to twenty-five campers aged eight to sixteen for one or two week camp sessions in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. Programs ranged from outdoor cooking, environmental science, games, and songs. Final program assignment of summer was a two week sailing program with another lifeguard/sailing instructor - where we taught 9 girls to sail at camp before taking them for a week of camping with two 24' sailboats on Lake George in NY State.
