Water is in my DNA. I grew up on the lakes of central Canada and currently live on a lake today in western Ontario (northern part of the Lake of the Woods - Rainy River watershed). In addition, another place I was lucky to visit for 21 years growing up was Harbor Island, Bahamas and these experiences instilled my affinity and love affair for anything below the oceans surface. My childhood dream was to become an oceanographer, but believe it or not, the University of Manitoba is not a hotbed of oceanography research!After graduating with a degree in zoology and fisheries, I made my way out to Seattle,WA. and trained with NOAA where I was the only woman within a crew of 300 doing fisheries research on long-term ocean cruises (working out of Dutch Harbor and Vancouver Island, covering from the Bering Sea to Juan de Fuca straight and was on about 50 different vessels altogether). Although I was able to hold my own, I eventually came to the realization that my stomach wasn’t as fond of being out at sea for months at a time. At that point I decided that I needed to re-think my path within the world of oceanography and aquatic sciences. I soon found my path in the area of oceanographic and environmental water quality monitoring technologies, and I have been on this journey since 2001. Although I didn't set out for this path originally, I absolutely love engaging with customers, learning about their research and monitoring objectives, and providing the best technologies they need to meet their needs.
