About Andrea Cattabriga

I am currently Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Università of Bologna, with 10+ years experience in teaching and training on design-based innovation strategies, mostly from a systemic, technological and responsible perspective.With more than 10 years of experience as a strategic designer, innovation consultant and technology transfer, I have collaborated with leading organizations in the education, manufacturing, and public sectors, to design and implement innovative solutions that integrate AI and emerging technologies, co-design and open innovation approaches, and responsible and inclusive design principles. I am also an award-winning co-founder of Slow/d, an Italian design firm that advocates for open and sustainable production systems and platforms.

    The aim of the Craft TrainER research project is to develop new tools for the improvement of craftsmanship through the digital capture of manual practices and activities for Made in Emilia-Romagna. My role is to design a scalable and replicable prototype training experience for craft trainees. This prototype will be adaptable for application in different industries. The focus will be on the integration of AI and mixed reality to digitise traditional crafts, ensuring the transferability of skills across different manufacturing sectors. My role includes research design and UX design using digital tools, motion capture techniques and gamified learning strategies, all aimed at creating an engaging, effective and universally applicable training model. This innovative approach aims to preserve cultural heritage while developing industry-specific skills in a sustainable way.

In 2017 it has been recognized by Curry Stone Design Prize in the Design Circle for the use of design practices as an instrument of democracy; included in the Italian Book of Innovation 2017 (Rizzoli editions).I functioned primarily as a startup owner with significant business development responsibilities, mostly focues of implementing the vision and leveraging our ecosystem to lead the cultural change and deliver our solution. Alongside this, I spearheaded the agile-led development team as product owner and product manager at the same time (roles in startups, you know, are quirte fuzzy), guiding them to deliver multiple MVPs for our platform despite resource constraints.
