I teach creative writing with my friend and colleague, Janine de Boisblanc at the Diablo Writers’ Workshop. We bring adult writers of all ages and experience together with the goal of inspiring and guiding them to discover their stories and succeed in telling them. We keep our classes small to provide room for expression and lots of individual attention. Our classes include stimulating readings, in-class writing exercises, motivational prompts, and a workshop to share writing. Plus, we provide a detailed analysis of each student’s workshop piece along with a written critique. Whether you’re drawn to fiction, nonfiction, memoir, essay or poetry—we offer a supportive environment where you can take risks while expanding your awareness of both writing and reading as a writer. Most importantly we will honor the rigor and joy of the creative process by working hard but not taking ourselves too seriously.

I am a writer and journalist with over 20 years experience, In journalism, I specialize in writing about medicine and healthcare. But my interests range widely, and I have published stories about social issues, education, travel, the arts, real estate, home design, wine, food, fashion, lifestyle, and more. I have a Masters in Creative Nonfiction from Saint Mary's College and my personal essays have been published in a number of literary journals. I am currently working on a collection of photo-inspired essays.

I wrote, designed, and edited continuing medical education (CME) programs in a variety of formats (web-based, audio, video, and print), which covered a wide range of healthcare topics including childhood immunizations, infectious diseases, tobacco cessation, alcohol and drug abuse, and many others.

Worked with students individually and in small groups on the research, writing, and presentation of speeches.

Working with a dedicated team, I developed the print, website, and electronic communications for the foundation. I also managed the design, content, production, and distribution of the organization's annual report.
