The Physics Dept. offers a minor, BA, BS, MS and PhD in physics and specializes in research topics including atomic/molecular, optical, nuclear theory, solid state, biophysics, physics education and astronomy. The astronomy program is part of the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy, operates 1 telescope at Kitt Peak Observatory in AZ, and offers numerous introductory undergraduate lecture and lab courses. A $4 million 4-story state-of-the-art student campus observatory is also scheduled to be built.As the Undergraduate Astronomy Laboratory & Campus Observatory Manager (aka Senior Teaching Lab Specialist), I was in charge of the entire undergraduate astronomy lab program. Research areas in optical, infrared & radio observing cover planetary, stellar, galactic & extragalactic topics. Dept. is a member of the Astrophysical Research Consortium and operates telescopes at Apache Point Observatory.As a graduate teaching assistant I taught undergrad astronomy lab courses, acted as a teachers asst. for undergrad introductory lecture courses; did public speaking/presentations to general public & taught students at campus observatory, gave public lectures for department seminars, acted as a judge for state high school science fair, etc. As a research assistant, I studied the relationship of extra-galactic globular cluster properties to galaxy evolution. Tasks included collection of astronomical data obtained using local telescopes, in-depth scientific library research and detailed computer analysis of all collected data.
