Andrea Salazar, a native of Colombia, is currently leading a dynamic social impact consulting firm that specializes in language accessibility. With over a decade of government experience, Andrea has played a crucial role in enhancing public service capabilities to effectively serve Limited English Proficient individuals. Her journey began in New York State (NYS), where she started by providing frontline service at the New York State Labor Department. There, she assisted Spanish and French-speaking workers with navigating unemployment benefits and job seeker services. This experience ignited her passion for breaking down language barriers and ultimately led to her becoming the first person to coordinate statewide efforts on language access in NYS. Her efforts culminated in the establishment of NYS's inaugural Office of Language Access. This achievement included securing funding and staff specifically dedicated to supporting executive agencies. Andrea's tenure in NYS showcased her commitment to pioneering language access initiatives and set the stage for her continued impact beyond state borders.In her most recent government role at the California Employment Development Department (EDD), Andrea played a pivotal role in establishing the first EDD Language Access Office. She also contributed to shaping the delivery of statewide language policy recommendations through her leadership on the State's Language Access Task Force. Her work laid the groundwork for comprehensive language access services.
