As Outreach & Communications Coordinator at the Sacramento Zoo, my primary focus is building excitement around our project to build a brand new world-class zoo in Elk Grove, CA. I connect with community members of all ages to share details about the project and build community excitement. I am responsible for creating, curating, and managing content across all our digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. My role involves crafting engaging posts that showcase zoo events, animal updates, conservation efforts, and community outreach. I develop social media strategies to boost engagement, monitor trends, and interact with our followers while maintaining the zoo’s unique voice and mission. I also analyze metrics to optimize content performance, collaborate with various zoo departments, and manage real-time communication during special events or emergencies.As a point person for media events and public relations at the Sacramento Zoo, I oversee coordinating media coverage, managing press inquiries, and organizing events to highlight the zoo’s initiatives. I work closely with journalists and media outlets to ensure accurate and compelling storytelling. Additionally, I aid in crafting press releases, ensuring they reflect the zoo’s mission, goals, and messaging. My role involves ensuring smooth communication during events, interviews, and any public-facing engagements to enhance the zoo’s visibility and reputation.For 5 years prior to this role, I was the primary primate caregiver at the Sacramento Zoo for all of our apes, monkeys, and lemurs. I am deeply passionate about helping to create a new zoo that is the best it can be for the entire region, the animal caregivers, and most importantly, all of the animals who call the zoo home.
