I am a social worker with 10+ years of professional experience in this wonderful field. Currently I'm in the process of developing a private practice through Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center. Working from a mind-body-spirit approach and using my social work background, I provide clients with evidence-based principles, guiding them through their emotional discomforts, woundings from early life experiences, confusion, and deepest longings.Upon moving to California from New York City, I first worked as a therapist with Kern County's crisis division. I provided clinical assessments and subsequent mental health service referrals to individuals coming from various paths, including young adults grappling with depression and anxiety for the first time, people who were recently involved in the justice system, and those with more acute needs such as psychosis, acute bipolar symptoms, drug addiction, and suicidal impulses. My post-graduate years in New York were spent serving as program director for two NORC programs ("naturally occurring retirement community"). Being a part of the NORC world was one of the greatest social work gifts to my career and life. I experienced what I believe to be the paragon of the non-profit world, providing in-house services to residents 60+ in a housing development and partnering with local stakeholders to embolden residents' social, health, and recreational life. The uniqueness of NORC work was the collaborative nature of the program. As director I supervised a team of full time staff, reported to grant funders, and collaborated with program partners via quarterly advisory board meetings comprised of senior residents, local health representatives and legislators. After working in solely community-based work for many years, I am now shifting gears to acquire a clinical license. Compassion, spiritual work, and strengths-based principles all deeply inform my life both personally and professionally.

Norc Program DirectorJasa May 2016 - May 2018Brighton Beach, BrooklynServed as program director for a NORC program ("naturally occurring retirement community") with JASA, a long established and respected agency serving the aging, in New York. My chief responsibilities included supervising staff and student interns, collaborating with senior resident advisory board members, overseeing program budget, city and state reporting and grant writing, and developing and nurturing partnerships with NORC community providers. I both coached and received my own guidance from senior resident volunteers of the community, who often made home visits or made friendly calls to homebound residents. I provided clinical services to clients with more complex presenting issues requiring intervention or counseling, and coached my social work staff. I started a successful bi-weekly support group that focused on anxiety and difficult emotions related to dementia, memory, and agin, which ended up being a wonderful collaboration with a senior volunteer and retired social worker, who co-facilitated the groups with me.As the director I tried to instill values of compassion and collaboration whenever possible. This often meant keeping my door open to community members who popped in to provide ideas, feedback, criticisms, etc. I loved this work deeply and truly believe the NORC model works in more ways we could even capture with data reports. In 2017 I spearheaded an intergenerational partnership with the local high school, where youth served as digital technology mentors for seniors, and seniors could provide to the kids some insight on their young lives in the process. In 2018 the initiative was added to the high school's official internship programming. -
Youth TherapistCommunity Counseling And Mediation Feb 2017 - Jun 2017Brooklyn, NyProvided individual and family therapy services to youth aged 6-18 utilizing CBT and strengths-based empowerment approaches. Responsibilities included completing individualized treatment plans and goals, including those based on school IEPs and vocational exploration for teens.I mediated family concerns between youth and parents via family therapy sessions, encouraging direct and open communication. For children with impulse control issues in the classroom, I applied play therapy techniques in the sessions in conjunction with caregiver involvement. I assisted a family coping with the recent trauma of a court-involved abuse case due to the abuse and neglect by the mother. Via family therapy and individual therapy, the two children were able to express their concerns and fears to the father, and one of the children was able to overcome incontinence symptoms in his school. -
