Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and its Special Operating Agency, the Canadian Coast Guard, deliver programs and services that support sustainable use and development of Canada’s waterways and aquatic resources. On behalf of the Government of Canada, DFO is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs in support of Canada’s scientific, ecological, social and economic interests in oceans and fresh waters.

As the Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative Program Advisor, I organized, oversaw and completed 31 effective engagement sessions involving a multitude of stakeholders in the fisheries sector including commercial, recreational, NGOs, and BC and Yukon First Nation partners as part of DFO’s newly implemented Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative on longer-term commercial salmon closures. I effectively managed tight timelines for evolving engagement plans or targets, including related materials, in addition to maintaining consistent client relationships and requests for information.

As a Program Officer for the Pacific Region Allocation Transfer Program (ATP), I was in charge of delivering approximately $178M worth of commercial fishing licence eligibilities (licences), quota, vessels and gear to approximately 39 coastal First Nations communities in B.C. and the Yukon annually through 85 Comprehensive Fisheries Agreements as part of the federal Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy (AFS) Program. I also worked as the Pacific regional co-lead of the Aboriginal Programs and Governance Information System, training employees on a program designed to help the Government of Canada track ongoing agreements and payments with external clients.

As a Program Administrator for the federal Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy (AFS) Program, I was in charge of delivering approximately $15M per year in funding to around 160 First Nations communities in B.C. and the Yukon, through 85 Comprehensive Fisheries Agreements. I provided support to the AFS Program Officers and Area Resource Managers on the review and approval of narrative and financial reports related to First Nations fisheries management, aquatic resource management, and economic development through the preparation of payment requisitions for contribution funding and the routing for approvals and payment processing. Through my work I have been able to master data entry into agreement, reporting, and payment tracking systems along with the corporate information repository, the Aboriginal Programs and Governance Information System.

The Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5) is a global forum that brings together ocean conservation professionals and high-level officials to inform, inspire and act on marine protected areas. Thousands of Marine Protected Area (MPA) professionals from around the world meet to chart a course towards protecting 30 per cent of the ocean by 2030.As the primary Logistics Coordinator for IMPAC5, my role consisted of room management, event requests and scheduling for 3000+ attendees leading up to the congress. I provided consistent communication and liaison work between members of the IMPAC5 Secretariat and our AV and event venue contacts at the Vancouver Convention Centre to ensure smooth preparations for food and beverage needs, as well as safety and security planning on site. My thorough work in the planning and management of the IMPAC5 registration area allowed for full functionality of bi-lateral meeting rooms, coat check, show office, and sign-in booths to be utilized. Public-facing on-site interactions consisted of information sharing and evet planning assistance.

COSMIC Medical is a collective group of passionate volunteers with the mission to create abundant access to medical equipment in BC and around the world through open-source design solutions. Our team consists of over 130 students, engineers, doctors, makers, and designers from Vancouver and the global community working together to fight against the COVID-19 crisis.As the primary Human Resources (HR) Coordinator on the COSMIC team I created and manage the internal organizational chart with details such as key duties, project participation, and time commitments between volunteers.

CVC is the largest social network at the University of British Columbia that strives to connect its 700+ member base through events of all nature - Parties, Recreational Sports, Volunteering, and the Biggest Ski Trip in Western Canada are only some of what falls under CVC's network. CVC has a long standing tradition at the University with its founding in 1930, over 90 executive members commit their time to the club.As the Secretary of CVC, I was one of six Seniors that are in charge of all internal aspects of the club. I assumed the position of the AMS Bookings Representative and oversaw all room booking requests required for the 3-4 events that our club holds monthly, while managing attendance, meeting minutes and contact data across our 93-person executive team. I also acted as a liaison for a team of 19 Advisors deployed across 9 different departments within the club.

The External Relations department handles all communication outside of the UBC campus from sponsorships to media requests. Being a coordinator means having adaptability, reliability and an open mind with a willingness to learn and develop interpersonal skills.

The events department produces CVC's largest scale events, striving to create opportunities in a member-oriented environment. Coordinators are involved in all aspects of the event planning process including logistics, budgeting, and advertising for events that exceeded numbers of 300+ students.
