English and Community Programs instructorThis position involved instruction and curriculum development for the Adventure Seekers program, a unique college-based course directed to young adults with moderate to severe developmental, intellectual and/or physical disabilities. I was required to deliver a varied, multi-level teaching environment with dynamic lectures. Specific skill strengthened in this position included strong communication, conflict resolution and mediation.

Basic computer and internet literacy, English language skills and business communications taught on a one-on-one basis to a retiree student.

The Readers Advisory position included helping patrons find resources, reference and other materials in person, online and via telephone. I also taught courses for the public including Introduction to Computers (including various software applications) and Sign Language. I maintained organizational procedures among materials, public areas, private work areas and the building. I helped maintain and contribute to public programming services. I also responsible for the maintenance, discarding and purchasing of materials for the library, organizing and maintaining several budget areas.

I have been teaching a variety of first-year English and Writing courses for UNBC since I started graduate school. I continued to teach after graduating with a specific focus on First Nations programming and have organized and taught courses both on and off reserves in highly specialized, directed programs. My most recent contract included teaching English and Business writing courses for the Aboriginal Business Development Assistance Program coordinated through UNBC and UNBC Continuing Studies. Previous to that I was the English teacher for UNBC's Carrier Language Certification Program in Fort St. James. These are courses that I designed, developed and delivered.I have taught English Fiction, Writing and Communications, Business Writing, Introduction to Film, Introduction to University Writing and have created and taught workshops on versions of the above, including creative writing and World Building (in Fiction).This work included the composition and delivery of courses to classes by means of lectures, workshops, group activities and examination formats. Final tabulation and grading was also required.My strengths include research and grammar as well as a strong focus on presentation skills and clear communication.

I started working for the CBC as a freelancer and eventually was hired on as a Researcher for the daily morning show, Daybreak North. In that time I trained for and ultimately worked in the role of Associate Producer. Daily tasks included script writing and vetting (editing), close teamwork, including story meetings, idea sharing and feedback and proposing original ideas. I was also tasked with researching ongoing and breaking news from around the Northern Interior regions and current affair items for inclusion on the Daybreak North program. I also worked on an ongoing basis on Arts reporting, on-air news and weather reporting, sports reporting, pre-interviewing guests for daily programming, contracting (with freelancers to the show), materials acquisition for the station and assistance in bureau promotion and events planning. I also booked guests for on-air and taped interviews, conducted pre-interviews and solicited live and taped commentary from local, provincial, national and international sources.Working as an Associate producer strengthened many skills, notably multitasking, working to deadline, confidentiality, quick critical thinking, and strong verbal and written communications.
