Dr. Andreas Bittner is founder and executive director of the battery recycling start-up CellCircle, which works on new processes to recover the functional materials of lithium-ion batteries destruction-free for direct reuse. His scientific background is the material development with strong focus on batteries and recycling. He carried out his doctoral thesis “Innovative Material Concepts for Electrochemical Energy Storage” at the Fraunhofer R&D Center for Electromobility Bavaria FZEB in cooperation with the Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg. During his more than ten years at Fraunhofer, he has built up the Business Unit Energy Materials at the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS, the battery recycling field at Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC and the international non-profit organization European Lithium Institute eLi.
