I am studying the discourse between Islamic orthopraxy and Pashtun traditions in the context of religious education in Afghanistan. Apart from traditions, one major focus lies on migration and the translocal transmission and translation of religious knowledge. This includes various traditional and non-traditional educational institutions in Pakistan.

Anthropological field studies with participant observartion in two villages in the districts Shughnon and Ishkoshim (Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast, Tajikistan) for Magister thesis:- socio-political organisation and kinship structures- local concepts of legitimacy and authority- mechanisms of socio-economical organisation (e.g. voluntary community labour, support during weddings, funerals, illness)- definition and implementation of village development plans- local perception of official structures of village organisations (VOs) and its relation with traditional leadership
