I am Professor & Council Member at Philips University and former Rector at EUC. My major areas of expertise in Higher Education are Policy Making, Quality Assurance and Accreditation, Leadership, Senior Management, and Anthropology/Archaeology/History, for which I have received various honours.Throughout my trajectory and leadership in higher education, excellence, quality and innovation in teaching, research and service to the community, with emphasis on delivering education without boundaries, have been my leading principles. To this end, I have always placed major weight on culture of inclusivity, equality and student-centred approach, aiming at academic (teaching and research) excellence, and at employability.I served and taught at universities and at other higher education institutions in USA and Europe. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in History-Archaeology from the University of Athens, a M.A. degree in Classics and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University at Albany, NY, and postdoctoral qualification in ODL from Hellenic Open University.I was a leading person in the establishment of European University-Cyprus, serving also as its first Rector, as well as of Open University of Cyprus, serving also on its first Governing Board. I also served on the first Council of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education, as well as on various ad hoc committees on higher education policy in Cyprus.I served as President (and formerly Vice President) of the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE) based in Brussels, and President and Vice President of the European Register of Quality Assurance (EQAR), which is the supreme body in Europe that evaluates and accredits the QA/Accreditation agencies of higher education in Europe. I participated for many years in the BFUG (Bologna Process). I played a key role as member of E4 Group in the development and implementation of quality assurance in higher education in Europe and in drafting the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in higher Education (ESG).I authored/edited a considerable number of books and articles/papers.I am also a music composer; I composed symphonic, pop works & music albums/CDs.
