Andreas HEYM is highly experienced in the creative and management processes of developing urban spaces of all scales, in multi-stakeholder environments, from historic intermodal hubs to TOD and master planning. His design work focuses on resilience, mobility, public space and value creation and he has acquired a particular knowledge of the development of complex urban settings.After he graduated as architect-engineer from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, he moved to Paris to work on large-scale artistic landscape and urban design projects with artist Dani Karavan. This shaped his sense of history and place, and of working in nature and context.In 1987, he was recruited by the SNCF French National Railways’ Station Design Office, where he participated and then assumed leadership roles in station and station-area design and development, first as project architect and then from 1995 to 2006 as head of the SNCF’s Station Services Design Department. In this role, he acquired extensive knowledge and sensitivity to structuring spaces, user needs and participative design.In 2007, he moved to AREP to become International Development Director, focusing on urban and transit development projects in Europe, Russia, and North America. From 2015 to 2018 he was heading AREP’s subsidiary in Casablanca, Morocco. This allowed him to broaden his understanding of design and project management in different societies and in varying cultural, technical, economic, social and historic environments.From 2018 to 2021, he participated in or led urban development projects in the Americas, Saudi-Arabia and the Indian subcontinent.In July 2021, he founded Andreas Heym Planning & Design.He currently assists both the French Agency for AlUla (AFALULA) and the Royal Comission for AlUla (RCU) as an expert for infrastructure and urban planning in the development of the county of AlUla, Saudi-Arabia, to an international world-heritage culture, nature and tourism destination.Andreas HEYM regularly takes part in international symposiums and conferences on urban mobility issues. From 1991 to 2008, he was Secretary of the Watford Group, the international association of railway architects, urban planners and designers.
