As a recent graduate of Illinois State University’s Public Relations program, my experience has helped me build a strong background in public relations and strategic planning. The courses I have taken emphasize writing using a variety of channels and thinking about the impact that PR has on the business industry and how communication can specifically tie into that. My knowledge can be applied in a variety of workplace environments including State Farm. Illinois State University has been credited with a Certification in Education for Public Relations. This accreditation recognizes the strengths of the program and the students that graduate from it. My experience in PR goes beyond the class room because my courses demanded a hands-on approach that is not unlike the professional sphere. In addition to this, I have participated in Illinois State University’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America, so I was able to learn about the PR industry from PR professionals.This experience is reflected upon through my strong work ethic. My work experience has helped me develop a number of skills in communication, public speaking, strategic planning, management and customer service. I recognize that these skills are important in a variety of professional settings. Though my work, I have served as a resource for those around me and have realized the importance of connecting to the internal and external stakeholders by providing people with outstanding service. You will be able to recognize my passion for interpersonal communication and my potential in the PR field.
