Management Support At The Max Iv Laboratory
In this position I shared my time between facilitating industry use of the laboratory, outreach towards companies and the general public, and supporting the Laboratory management with a multitude of tasks. I was also the laboratory and Lund University contact person in the EU Science Link project. The aim of the project is to increase the use of large scale research facilities by companies in the Baltic Sea Region.
Project Coordinator
Project Coordinator at Solid State Physics at Lund University. I was the contact person for Lund University and the MAX IV Laboratory in the EU Science Link project. When moving over to the MAX IV Laboratory in August 2012 I continued in this capacity.
Associate Scientific Programme Officer
My responsibilities at SFI included the evaluation of research funding applications from Irish university researchers, managing the oversight of active research projects and managing award programmes. A lot of my time was spent communicating with various stakeholders within government agencies and academia. My research grant portfolio consisted of more than 70 active research projects in Physics, Renewable Energy, Nanotechnology, the Geosciences, Mathematics, Software Engineering and Chemistry. The total value of these awards was nearly €10 million. The projects required management through communication with the researchers, conducting progress reviews using international experts, analysis of outputs from the projects and value for money of the investments, reporting on progress to SFI management etc. As part of my duties I was also responsible for the oversight of Irish space and aerospace research activities at SFI. I compiled an extensive report on the Irish space and aerospace sector in order to improve oversight and identify possible opportunities for strengthened academic-industry collaborations. During 2011 I was one of two Irish National Contact Points for the European Research Council (ERC). This work involved giving advice to, and arranging information events for, Irish applicants and representing Ireland at ERC meetings in Brussels. In 2009 I worked on an SFI project aimed at connecting companies with academic researchers.
Postdoctoral Researcher
Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Physics, Gothenburg University, Sweden, July 2008 to November 2008. Working as an independent researcher I was responsible for a research project examining the growth of carbon nanofibres with plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition. My assignment was originally a one year contract, which was cut short due to my move to Ireland.
Research Scientist
Research Scientist at the spin-off company Nano Cluster Devices Ltd., Christchurch, New Zealand, February 2005 to June 2007. At Nano Cluster Devices my responsibilities included the planning and execution of research projects, supervision of colleagues and students and the generation of intellectual property. I gained insight into the development of a scientific hypothesis into a working prototype. This included basic research, searching for and writing patents, and investigations into technological applications. I am a named inventor on three patents.
Postdoctoral Researcher
Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Physics, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University, Greifswald, Germany, September 2003 to January 2005. I participated in research projects and also prepared and submitted grant proposals to the German Research Foundation and the 6th EU Framework Programme (FP6).
