My goal is to automate as much as I can. When I do the same thing twice, I always get the feeling that I'm doing something wrong. Unless of course the thing I do is joyful like Tai-chi or riding a bicycle. I am using open source software for over 20 years now and it has helped me a lot so I try to give something back by contributing to open source projects where I can. I also publish some of my private stuff (mostly home automation[0]) on github for others to use. I believe that publishing code increases quality and maintainability because if others look at it, it has to be good or I'm embarrassed.[0] Home Automation for me is not having a Web-UI to turn on my AC but rather having the AC running if there is a large enough power surplus on the solar panels. All this without me having to think about it. I only act if the monitoring tells me that there is something wrong with the automation.
