As a human and molecular biologist, I quit my biomedical career to raise awareness about plastic pollution with creativity and the extraordinary:"The Plastic Hike" (2020): Within 58 days, I hiked the entire 832 km long coastline of Portugal to raise awareness and collect 1,6 tons of plastic together with 550 people and 80 NGOs and initiatives. 27 artists converted the collected trash into awareness art."The Butt Hike" (2021): A journey through 38 cities along the coast of Portugal to collect 1,1 million cigarette butts together with +600 people and 70 NGOs / initiatives. "The Trash Cycle" (2022): I built a bicycle out of just second hand parts to give trash a new life and cycling 2370 km around Portugal without a break day in 57 days and with just 1 refillable water bottle. On the way, I collected 6000 bottles and cans to support a petition of Portuguese NGOs for the implementation of a deposit system in Portugal. "The World's Biggest Butt Pick Up" (2023): 1400 people were mobilised in Portugal to pick within just 1 week 750.000 cigarette butts. All butts were piled up on Praça de Comerçio to raise awareness about small acts matter for the ocean and climate."The Ocean Hike" (2024): Continuing to walk the entire coast of Portugal to raise awareness: 280 km in 21 days around Madeira and Porto Santo. Almost 1 ton of trash got collected with +500 people and signatures were raised for a Moratorium on Deep Sea Mining in Madeiran Waters.Website:www.thetrashtraveler.org
