As a biochemist, I explore the complexities of protein chemistry, a field I became passionate about through my research into the structure, mechanism, and pharmacology of disease-related proteins. My hands-on and theoretical expertise includes: • Engineering and purification of recombinant proteins• Biophysical characterization of protein dynamics and protein-ligand interactions• Bioanalytical methods (HPLC, spectroscopy, immunoblotting, molecular biology)• Development and optimization of in vitro assays• Molecular pharmacology (radioactivity- and fluorescence-based assays)• Recombinant protein production in bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cell expression systems• Cell-based screening assays• Scientific communicationCurrently, my research focuses on developing biophysical techniques that elucidate the structural dynamics of transporter proteins, particularly those involved in neurotransmitter transport. Through the combination of non-canonical amino acid incorporation, protein purification, and spectroscopic techniques, we are uncovering the structural dynamics of especially the human serotonin and dopamine transporters in response to the binding of prescribed drugs, psychostimulants, and interacting proteins.
