Andreas Schmidt Mumm studied Chemistry and Geology at the Georg August University Göttingen, Germany and the Australian National University in Canberra where he completed his degree in 1983 and his PhD at the University of Goettingen in 1988. Andreas worked as a contract exploration geologist for Goldfields SA in Namibia and PREUSSAG – Metall in Germany. In 1986 and 87 he was first junior and then senior exploration geologist for SAARBERG Interplan/Interuran in their uranium exploration program in Zambia. In the following years until 2000 Andreas worked with the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) in an education and cooperative research project on “The Metallogenesis of Gold in Africa” where he coordinated activities in southern Africa (Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe). Andreas then moved on to the University of Halle Wittenberg in eastern Germany supervising projects on “Crustal Evolution and the Genesis of Gold Deposits in Ghana and Zimbabwe” and “Mineral Deposits and Basin Evolution, the North-East German Basin” and “Numerical Modelling of Heat Flow in the North German Basin”. In 2000 he was award the “Habilitation”, He also worked as Consultant to the Resource Industry and in 1994 formed a company (ASM CONSULT GmbH) providing geochemical services to the industry. In 2000 Andreas migrated to Australia to take up his present position as Lecturer for Economic Geology at the University of Adelaide. In the past decade Andreas has built and established research cooperation with a large number of Australian exploration and mining companies with a focus on gold and Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold mineralisation. He was a researcher of the CRC LEME and is now strongly involved in the new CRC for Deep Exploration Technologies.UPDATEIn December 2011 Andreas joined the EXPEC ARC research team at Saudi ARAMCOUPDATEMore or less retired since September 2016, living in Adelaide
