PD Dr. Andreas Martin Seitz, born in 1980, is the group leader of joint biomechanics at the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics, Ulm. Understanding the structure-function relationship of different knee-joint structures such as the menisci in both the healthy and degeneration state is one of the core projects of the joint biomechanics group. This includes investigations on the complex biomechanical and biotribological interplay between the natural friction partners in the knee as well as the development of functionalized biomimetic replacement materials. Moreover, the groups scientific interests comprise the biomechanical optimization of orthopaedic surgical procedures and the related postoperative rehabilitation, evaluations of the performance of different endoprosthetics and orthotics and the work on standardization of future biomechanical testing of soft tissues. Our interdisciplinary team consists of biomedical engineers, biologists, veterinarians and MD students who also collaborate with national and international industrial partners, clinicians and other scientists, who share our passion to better understand the pathomechanisms of degeneration and diseases of the musculoskeletal system and to improve or develop novel therapeutical strategies.
