Andreas, born in Salzkotten, Germany, in 1977, graduated from Göttingen University of Applied Sciences with a BSc. in “Forestry and Environmental Management” in 2002 and received his MSc. degree in “Sustainable Forestry and Land Use Management” from Freiburg University in 2004. He has worked for 8 months at Dr. René Alfaro's forest entomology lab of the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria, BC, Canada. He has written his Master`s thesis on harvesting scenario modelling at the UC School of Forestry, Christchurch, New Zealand.Having his major focus on the forest timber-chain, until 2010, Andreas has been part of the scientific coordination team of the national research programme on “Sustainable Forestry” of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. He continued his work coordinating the scientific coordination project GLUES of the international research programme on “Sustainable Land Management” for the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. His major focus was the communication and networking among the various collaborative (transdisciplinary) research projects of the programme and support the scientists involved that come from several disciplines (natural and social scientists) as well as stakeholders. The five year programme has been contributing to the evidence base needed to achieve a balance between various land uses that shape and sustain multi-functional landscapes and communities. Special attention was given to the interactions between land management, climate change and ecosystem services.In 2016 Andreas has staken up a new challenge und joined the FriedWald team. FriedWald is Germanys largest provider of natural burials which take place in designated forest sites. In this branch he shares his forestry expertise having his major focus on the management of forest sites used as funeral sites as the number of woodland burial sites is on the increase. In 2019 he became regional head to lead one of three regions in Germany with 29 natural forest sites in four federal countries.
