Community Educator
Current• I am part of a 26-strong team of nurses and educators across New Zealand responsible for being key players in delivering education and supporting people with Parkinson’s and their families/whanau in the community setting.• I currently have 210 clients on my caseload.• Provide a vital role in both the interface with secondary health services and with integration into the local community environment.• Provide education, information and support to people living with Parkinson’s, their carers, families and loved ones through publications and support groups.• Provide home visits to re-assure, motivate, and advise people with Parkinson's and others associated with them. • Act as a patient advocate ensuring clients get the best possible care.• Monitor medication management and help note any beneficial or adverse effects.• Monitor progress of the condition and advise on effective strategies.• Refer clients to other agencies. e.g., for assessment for home support.• Hold in-service training in rest homes and other health services and organise educational courses.
