• Performed mooring analyses for various ship-berth arrangements in a port in order to identify the limitations of the system occur due to the moorings and various environmental conditions. Expansion of the Port Frederikshavn, Denmark.• One of the areas investigated for the expansion was the design and study of rubble mount breakwater. Scale model of the breakwater design has been analyzed (overtopping and damage of the armour units) by performing laboratory experiments at a wave basin.• Additionally, a detailed wave penetration studies were performed to assess the wave disturbance at the inner basins from waves approaching from different directions. The wave penetration studies were carried out using Mike21 Boussinesq waves.Expansion of Hanstholm Port, Denmark.• The focus of the study was to perform detail evaluation regarding the sediment transport in the area (by pass port) and to assess the wave penetration. Two designs were investigated and compared (existing and proposed design for expansion). The comparison was performed using numerical modelling software Mike21 Spectral Wave, Hydrodynamic Flow Model & Sediment Transport which needed as input data sets of wind, waves and bathymetric. • Additionally, a Historical shoreline evolution was performed from 1842 to 2016 in order to assess the morphological changes of the shoreline affected by the port’s construction. This has been done by comparing historical maps of the area.
