In order to gain experience in the field of social work I dedicated a year to involving myself in social care in my community. This has been a profoundly challenging and rewarding year that has immeasurably increased my resilience, patience and desire to effect positive change in vulnerable people’s lives through my work.My role and responsibilities:Providing comprehensive physical, mental and emotional care to the elderly, including those living with dementia, to maximize their independence and quality of life. I have been fortunate enough to work within a team that aims to meet more than just the essential needs of our residents, striving to engage and challenge them with trips and social activities that enable them to live fuller lives in the face of often crippling conditions.In order to learn as much as possible from this experience, I have undertaken extra training in the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and eagerly await further courses in mental health and dementia specific care.
