About Andre Bacon

Andre Bacon is a CS Student and Indie Game Developer at Seattle Monorail Services. He is proficient in Toki Pona. Colleagues describe him as "Andre is an extremely talented young developer with really impressive work habits and an eagerness to learn and improve his skills. In my time working in the Cleveland High School computer science department he is one of the most brilliant, hard working students we've had come through the program. Our standard class curriculum was not challenging for him - he completed all of the asynchronous exercises that were supposed to take him through the spring within the first month or two of the school year. Andre was eager to get through them so he could start working on the project he actually wanted to work on. He spent most of the rest of the year building out his game idea using JavaFX and the object oriented programming concepts that he mostly taught himself as he was breezing through our regular curriculum. He continued to ask increasingly sophisticated programming questions around his project architecture, code style, and the pros and cons of various design patterns. What he produced in the end of was an incredibly sophisticated application with a better UI than I have ever seen from a JavaFX application. He has since deployed his game on Steam, and to my eyes it seems to have legitimate production quality - I certainly wouldn't pick it out as a student project rather than a fully featured game. Andre holds himself to extremely high standards in his work. Every time I tried to congratulate him on how well the project was going, he would continue to press for more critical feedback on how he could improve the project and build his programming skills. He was always excited to share what he has been working on, but I was more impressed with his determination and persistence in implementing his vision than his impressive technical skills. I also had the opportunity to coach Andre on the cross country, wrestling, and track teams at Cleveland. The same work ethic and determination I had seen in the computer science classroom shone through on the athletic field as well, in addition to Andre's toughness and competitiveness. He was an exemplary teammate and, despite joining all three of those teams his senior year, quickly and naturally assumed a leadership position on those teams as other teammates looked to him based on his hard work, confidence, and caring, supportive posture toward his teammates. I am confident Andre is going to be successful wherever he goes because of his work habits, determination, the high standards he holds himself to, and the way he cares for the people around him. He is an absolutely brilliant developer and I would highly recommend him for a software development position - he will be a tremendous asset to whatever company is fortunate enough to employ him."
