Personal Statement: I have experience in biochemistry with focus on protein purification and characterization, solid phase peptide synthesis, heterologous protein expression, isolation and structural characterization of amyloid proteins. The goal of my current research is to isolate and determine the molecular mass of the Aβ oligomer (AβO) targeted by a scFv fragment antibody previously selected by our group, named NUsc1, shown to interact preferentially with soluble oligomeric assemblies of Aβ, and to neutralize AβO toxicity in neuronal cultures.

  The goal of my current research is to isolate and determine the molecular mass of the Aβ oligomer (AβO) targeted by a scFv fragment antibody previously selected by our group, named NUsc1, shown to interact preferentially with soluble oligomeric assemblies of Aβ, and to neutralize AβO toxicity in neuronal cultures. Specifically, we plan to isolate AβOs from different sources using NUsc1-functionalized magnetic beads and analyze this complex using biochemical and biophysical techniques to elucidate the structure of toxic AβOs in low resolution.
