    In this project, I've developed a MEMS piezoelectric accelerometer for totally implantable cochlear implants and hearing devices. In this two year period I simulated the piezo sensor in Comsol Multiphysics, optimized for charge sensitivity using genetic algorithms (GA) and differential evolution (DE), and performed experiments for noise and charge characterization. This work proved the feasibility of MEMS piezoelectric accelerometers for implantable hearing devices, and lays a few recommendations to improve the second generation sensor's performance.
