The Humanize My Hoodie Movement originated from a demand to end the killing of Black and Indigenous People across the world. We recognize how hoodies have been used to amplify the myth of Black criminality. Our mission is to debunk that stereotype by designing revolutionary social justice campaigns for Black and Indigenous People of Color to be HUMANIZED, not criminalized. Humanize My Hoodie empowers Black people to stand up against racial injustice. The hoodie invites conversations and we are using the Humanize My Hoodie sweatshirt, as well as educational tools, to arm our marginalized communities with innovative ways to uplift humanity and fight against violence and racism. We do this by providing jobs for poor youth, providing hoodies for entire communities who’ve experienced hate; providing a platform for the formerly incarcerated to be seen as more than their criminal record. We also provide opportunities for others to become allies.

Dream Chaser Basketball was created to give underrepresented youth a chance to experience the power of teamwork and dedication through sports. As one of the co-founders, I played a crucial role in establishing partnerships to ensure we had practice facilities, jerseys, and merchandise for the team. By securing community sponsorships, including a key relationship with Scheels Sporting Goods, we provided shoes and covered costs, removing financial barriers for the youth. This initiative helped foster their growth, both on and off the court, making basketball a vehicle for empowerment and opportunity.

This position consists of building a pool of mentor volunteers among the Iowa City Area, locally and nationally, I have been focused on forming a team of mentors that would give advice and guidance to startups and entrepreneurs in the Iowa City Area with the outcome being a stronger business ecosystem.
