In my past life, I was a professional Dota 2 support player for Fnatic. This was back in the days when being a pro-gamer meant you will get your trips and accommodation covered by the org you played for. Having a professional player salary was the dream I never reached. My tournament earnings were somewhere around $1,500. I had a 2nd place finish at DreamHack Winter 2011 and 3rd at ESWC earlier that year. It was the dinosaur era of Dota 2, when The International 1 was ‘only’ $1,600,000 strong.I stopped playing competitively in 2012 and started working at Fnatic. I volunteered in my first month and my contribution was significant enough for the management to think I should start my second month with a paid ‘journalist’ position. Later on, I became a part of the senior management team. These were my baby steps in the esports environment. After Fnatic, I led the content for the CBSi owned portal dedicated to esports – onGamers. When onGamers disbanded in 2014, Mata and I joined by Elroy Pinto and a couple others founded !.99. The biggest professional achievement for me over the past 6 years is that I breath life into !.99’s work ethic and culture. During my stay at !.99, I was its heart beat. On the project side, the things I am proud of the most are the creation & existence of the OG Dota 2 brand, the esports work done for Red Bull, the !.99 website which was published in early 2020. and a few others.
