After a three-month sabbatical Andre joined Cheil as its Chief Operating Officer. Samsung was his focus, where his team were responsible for retail, advertising, activation / events, sponsorship, digital & social. Cheil become much more profitable under his leadership, and new engagements in 2018 included PR, FFM strategy and integration, digital & PR / Comms and TV events & activation.

When SA Tourism left Ireland-Davenport, Andre rejoined Ogilvy, to lead the consolidation of the Vodacom business into the Ogilvy Group under Team RED.

Andre joined Ireland-Davenport where he led South African Tourism, Vodacom, and also established Amplified, a PR, activation and digital unit within that Agency.

South Africa

Andre was appointed Group Executive of Ogilvy South Africa and looked after two of the group companies - Ogilvy Durban and Mother Russia as well as key Group clients including Cell C, where he was responsible over a 2-year period, for the integrated brand re-launch, as well as Sun International (Resorts, Corporate and Gaming) and South African Tourism.

In January 2006 he was appointed Managing Director of Brand Activation and continued building the operation into a unit of 85 people. In this period Brand Activation was also responsible for the entire Sun International portfolio (Resorts, Gaming and Corporate brand). Andre was responsible for the Sun International re-branding project (across all 33 properties). He also managed the international portfolio, which included a two-year stint travelling to Egypt to launch Sun International’s Port Ghalib Resort on the Red Sea.

In 2005 he joined Howard Smiedt in starting Brand Activation, a fledgling activation agency. Under Andre and Howards’ leadership this company grew exponentially, winning projects from existing Ogilvy clients and adding a host of new Clients to the Group.

Andre spent 10 years in Ogilvy Johannesburg (SA’s leading agency) working on many of South Africa’s best-known brands, across a range of diverse categories. Some of the projects and Clients he worked on and led include South African Breweries (Castle, Amstel, Lion, Chandlers, SAB Corporate, MGD, Peroni, Castle Lite), Volkswagen / Audi, M-Net, DStv, SuperSport, SARS, IBM, SAP, Nestle, Nedcor, First National Bank, MultiChoice, 702 Talk Radio, Sun International, Exxaro, Gautrain, Collect-a-Can and Konica Minolta, amongst others.

For the first two years of his career he worked in Ogilvy One, a direct marketing specialist, servicing BAT, Audi, VW and other FMCG and Corporate Client like Ceres and Syfrets
