In this opportunity, I joined the Global Open System team as a System Admin. Working on Linux, Windows, physical servers (HP) and VM infrastructure (VMware). I was part of a rotation schedule working the incident queues, resolving different issues reported by the monitoring systems, performance and storage limits, or created by customers. Troubleshoot login issues, adding users and groups to servers. Restoring VMs from backup snapshots. Adding/extending VM file systems. Mapping new attached storage (LUNs) to physical servers and ESX hosts. Adding NFS/CIFs file systems to Linux servers. Migrating VMs to different clusters as part of planned activities. Deploying new VMs, Servers and ESX hosts to existing clusters. Troubleshooting server network outages from OS level. Serving as a backup resource to on-call rotations. Worked in planned maintenance activities. During this time, I helped the team increase productivity levels by getting planed and unplanned tasks done before the deadlines.

In this roll, I was responsible for the deployment and support of the Internal IT Server/VM and Storage. Delivering Virtual Machines (VMware) and physical servers, both Linux and Windows. Complete post-deployment tasks like configuring custom network and storage settings provided by customers. Some servers needed to be deployed on standard subnets and then moved to PCI environment or DMZ. Configure custom storage layout for MS App and SQL servers. Deployed Oracle Database packages on single and clustered nodes and help troubleshoot any deployment issues. Support cross functional teams reaching tight deadlines, coordinating and troubleshooting complex deployments across different environments and time zones.Other duties: • Coordinated environment changes within project timelines. • Assisted in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level systems engineers. • Responsible for the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support.One of the most important accomplishment I achieved at Dell, was to help deliver projects that had top executive level visibility. Not only by delivering my workload in a timely manner, but assisting my teammates deliver as well, and coordinating with other teams on getting resources ahead of time, so the workflow wouldn’t stop for the whole team.

Work with the Network Operations Center team. The NOC monitors a private Cloud base infrastructure and real machine systems as well. Daily tasks include working on tickets (Service-now), email queue. Initiate troubleshooting steps towards resolution or escalations. Work on issues reported by monitoring systems (Hardware and Software). • Performed daily backup activities and restore requests (Netbackup). • Performed hardware maintenance on Dell and HP Blade systems. • Assisted and coordinated with other team around the world in different topics. Linux skills are helping solve legacy Unix (AIX and HP-UX) related issues. • Modified shell scripts written for HP-UX already for example. Setup Unix/Linux system user and FTP account creations and maintenance. • Windows Server Active Directory related tasks are part of the daily basis, user creations and passwords management. • Storage administration, report disk usage, freeing space and make recommendations to system owners.

Worked with the Enterprise Virtualization and Compatibility validation team. Daily basis tasks were hypervisor/Virtual Machines deployments from vendors like VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, Xen and KVM. Install and set up network and kernel stress test benchmarks on both Guess (Virtual) and Host (physical Machine) systems. • Hardware assembly process (server/desktop/mobile) to install the software (OS or Hypervisor only) and deploy multiple virtual machines, running different operating systems (Linux OSs and Windows OSs) and finally execute the related workload between virtual machines, virtual machine to host, and between platforms (Server to desktop, server to server).

In this opportunity, I helped this company to customize a well known Linux Distribution, to be capable of being boot it up on hardware with very low resources and run a single app. This was done by analyzing what packages, libraries and drivers were needed and which ones not in order to load the OS in the most efficient way.

Troubleshooting (hardware and software) of Laptops, Mini Laptops, Desktops and All-in-One Desktops for the top brands like HP, Dell, Toshiba, Acer, Asus, Gateway. • Performed diagnostics of the computer, then order the proper parts to fix what is wrong with the system, screen, hard drive, motherboard, memory, casing, change the parts, make the appropriate tests and finally send it back to the customer.

• Install custom server OS images (Linux, Windows, Solaris) and post-configuration according client specifications.• Test Dell servers, laptops and desktops.• BIOS flashing and setup (server and desktop)• Processing orders and shipping to clients.After a few weeks I stared working with the validation team doing troubleshooting of Linux Servers/Racks and ensuring that everything was working as the client expectations.
