About Andres M. Cruz, P.E. - Bsme
During my upbringing I wanted to be a scientist or an architect, until my junior year of high school when I learned about mechanical engineering. My first impression was that becoming a mechanical engineer will allow me to work within a branch of science that was palpable where I can have fun with machines and get them to have a useful purpose. I have always been into bicycles, motorcycles and cars (still remember the first time I drove a manual transmission vehicle at he age of 14, story for another time). I was always curious with how things worked; and when they broke figuring how to fix them was rewarding and I felt accomplished. Once an engineering student I realized how practical can be being an engineer. In the Thermodynamics class, during the combustion and Stoichiometry lecture, I had an eureka moment. As a matter of fact my vehicle inspection had just failed due to high CO2 emissions so I realized that the amount of intake air was being restricted, got out of the lecture hall went straight to my car replaced the air filter, had not been changed in years, headed to the inspection shop and voila! it passed the emission test. After this I knew I was meant to be a mechanical engineer, I buckled up and ever since have been enjoying my career. This lead to many other great experiences throughout my university years. Consequently moving to the real world to work on nuclear submarines and nuclear aircraft carriers and then transitioning to rotating equipment and oil & gas. It has been a great time and tons of fun.In my spare time I also complement work with hobbies such as 3D printing (UM2+ Extended), DJI mavic pro drone and tinkering at home. Next addition will be bench top CNC, that will be exciting.Specialties: Well Plan & TadPro Oil & Gas SoftwaresRotating Equipment repairs, modification and installationProject Cost EstimatingTechnical Work Document WriterQuotes and Bids Project ManagementHVAC designFinite Element Analysis, CAD, CAE: ANSYS, AutoCAD, Solidworks, UG [NX], Microstation and Fusion 360Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T-ASME Y14.5)Matlab & MathCadDynamic vibrations and balancing courseShaft AlignmentNon-Destructive TestPLCPumps (ANSI & API), Vacuums, CompressorsMechanical Seals & Bearing IsolatorsGraduate Course: Finite Element Analysis (during my BSME)3D Printing with Ultimaker 2+ Extended and Fusion 360
