In 2015, I decided to do something new in my life and travel to the USA to have social experiences with people I had never seen before and are culturally different from me.I chose Washington DC because when I was a kid, I studied George Washington, and when I moved, I felt that my dream had come true. I kept focused on my objective: learning a new language, and culture and also having more professional opportunities than I had in Brazil. In Brazil, when I did the stewardess course , I learned that to be able to work internationally, I needed to learn at least three languages. And that became one of my goals. In the US, I had many challenges in the beginning. I worked as a babysitter for a while, which was great for my communication skills. I helped parents manage their kids’ schedules and even suggested best practices to improve their family life. It was an incredible opportunity to grow my interpersonal skills. One of my passions is to share the beautiful Brazilian culture. So, in 2016 I founded Royalty Samba, a company specializing in Brazilian Entertainment. I have dancers from all over Brazil performing the most famous Brazilian Samba dance. We have performed at company events, school intercultural events, and family events. My mother tongue is Portuguese, and I am fluent in English and Spanish. Spanish was easy for me because it is similar to Portuguese, and I’ve been practicing daily with my husband, who is from Guatemala. English is still my focus, so even though I am fluent, I’m still in pursuit of the proficiency level that I always dreamed of, so I have weekly private English lessons where I practice writing, reading, and speaking.Today, because of personal experiences here in Maryland, I saw the need for multilingual speakers in the health industry, like clinics, hospitals, and private practice offices, that is why I’m looking for a place/company where I can use my skills, where I can help people, grow professionally and have opportunities to learn new skills.
